I was very pleased with Brooks and Juzang last night, it looks like they may be getting in the groove. I was also glad to hear Calipari say that he was laying back and try to do less coaching and let the players figure things out. They still need several reminders and am sure Cal will let them know about certain things to be done. After all, he and the other guys are their coaches and still need to point out their mistakes and what things they want to run, I'm sure that's a given. Still like what I'm seeing on the court though, the team is starting to gel a bit more.

If this team gets it together, by tournament time, we'll be saying Cal why did we ever doubt you.

I hear you on your last statement and it's very true. Cal is after very human and I would imagine figuring out what is best for a player and the team isn't easy. Some are complaining that the last 5 years have been subpar but on the other hand, his last 10 years have been above board. KY fans are no different than Alabama football fans in the fact that we are all spoiled and are disappointed when we think we should have done better not only during the season but in the tournament. Cal gets the big bucks and most fans want their monies worth it seems. There are a lot of armchair quarterbacks that complain about results or certain things and couldn't coach a men's intramural team (me included). Cal has a system he has had success with and seems to be pretty stubborn to change sometimes. There is no one I would rather coach Kentucky than Calipari but he is human and has his flaws just as all of us have our flaws. The fact is though, we aren't getting paid 10 million dollars for our flaws. That's to be taken humorously BTW.

Speaking of Cal's stubbornness, for all he's accomplished since he's been at UK, I feel his refusing to play a zone def. has hurt us at times. Having said that, I feel he's more than earned his keep since he's been here. Speaking of UK and zone defenses, uncle Adolph hated them and said he'd never employ one. It was January 18, 1964 and the Vols were in town. I think coach Rupp knew UK's best chance to win was to use a zone def. He used a 1-3-1 and UK won the game. Afterwards, coach couldn't bring himself to admit he had used a zone. When asked about it, he said it was a "stratified transitional hyperbolic paraboloid defense."

Cal is stubborn for sure but from my viewpoint, he is trying to adjust himself. The zone would help us a lot sometimes as well as certain groups of players during different situations. I wouldn't want any other coach and Cal still seems very enthused with coaching at Kentucky which pleases me very much.
