I think they're a much better team and it looks like Carter is planning on making believers out of everyone.

I really didn't think he was going to be that good but did you see how aggressive he was? I think he is already better than Woo or Shag.

In Tubbys on words on the post game show, Carter isnt going to redshirt! There will be some tough times ahead because after all he is a freshman, but this kid is going to be a PLAYER!!

The one thing Carter has on all of our big men, even Morris is his HANDS!! He has great hands, can catch in traffic and keeps the ball up high! As Tubby said in his post game show he has been taught well! Thanks to Billy Hicks!!! Sorry I have to give a shout out to my old coach when I can!!

For a freshman, he plays pretty advanced doesn't he? I got to listen to the last 5 minutes of the game.

This team is more talented than last year's squad, but I think how that equates into wins and losses remains to be seen. The '01-'02 team was probably Tubby's most talented team -- and we all know how that turned out. I'm not saying that anything like Team Turmoil is going to happen again, but an average performance in an exhibition game against a D-II school doesn't prove much one way or another.
GO CATS!!!

I'd have to agree fce, exibition games are meant to experiment and find out things about the team.

Shain I have to disagree Woo doesnt suck, he had a bad game I will give you that. As I stated in another post the thing Carter has on our other big men is his HANDS! Woo as will all the big guys at times simply struggled last night. But Tubby sees these guys every day and Woo must have earned his starting postion from the way he was playing in practice. This may change for the next game, who knows. We will just have to wait and see. Carter had a really good game, I agree, but it was only an exhibition. There are a lot of ups and downs left to go, so lets give it some time before we annoint him the next Bill Walton. Thats simply too much pressure for a young kid at this point As far as Sims, I agree on that one I think it will only be a certain amount of time before he works his way into the starting line up. Lets all remember that Rondo didnt start the first exhibition last year. The thing we benefit from this year although we are not loaded down with seniors who play, this team has a lot of players who have played in this system for at least a year. Less teaching of the system has to take place this year and Tubby can work more on refining it and working on weaknesses!

I believe we'll be a better team this year because all our guards now have at least one year of Kentucky under their belts. We are so very deep at the one and two. It will only help us come tournament time IMO.
If you have excellent guard play, you always have a chance to win.
Also, with a stronger Thomas, the addition of Sims and hopefully and new and improved Morris, the sky is the limit.

I think we have the potential to be a better team-more experience and new talent. I think that we will know after a few more games. Last night we were a little sloppy with passes, but time will help them to synchronize as a team. And, the big men have got to hit the boards. I was very impressed with Sims and his hustle and I liked how Crawford was going after rebounds. I really liked Carter's play, too. He doesn't seem to be intimidated. I feel that we settled for too many jump shots. But, if the guards don't have confidence in our big men; they will be hesitant to pass to them. I think that Woo and Shag are just too passive. All in all, I thought that our shooting looked pretty decent-except for free throw shooting. We only have a couple of clutch free throw shooters, which could bite us in a close game. We have an awesome backcourt. So, I think it's about gelling as a team and desire now.

From what I heard on the internet listening to the game and read on other boards, it seems reasonable to give Woo (and Shag as well) the benefit of the doubt. Do I think Woo has great hands - no, I don't - but I remember when Saul started at PG and when Cliff Hawkins began. Each had a bad habit of throwing passes the big guys couldn't handle, too low, too close, too unexpected or when they were out of position to do anything with it. These guys have just come off a summer of pick-up games with no real emphasis on team ball or coaching. Until you get used to it, all you see when you are playing at top speed against pressure is a jersey color - no real recognition of who might be wearing it, much less that you have to change how and where you make the pass. We have a lot of players who like to drive the lane which leads to them getting trapped and having to get rid of the ball. In that situation the last thought is, "OK, this is Woo, I have to keep the pass above his shoulders and to his right hand." I also think our big men get lax because they are used to NOT getting the pass. How many times did Woo post his man up only to be ignored by the ball handling guard? After a while looking for the pass drops out of the routine as the big man goes from spot to spot in the halfcourt. Their mind is on where they are moving next and their hands as well as their head are not ready for the arrival of the ball. As our guards look inside more with the correct recognition to who they're passing, I expect both Woo and Shag to be more effective offensively. Remember, how bad we all thought Magloire's hands were - he turned out pretty good; was that because he got better or because our guards did? Rebounding is another story.
