Can Pearl get the job done at Tennessee?

The cupboard isn't exactly brimming over with talent as Bruce Pearl takes over the coaching reins at Tennessee, but neither is it completely bare.

Guards Chris Lofton and C.J. Watson, the Nos. 2 and 3 scorers for the Vols from last season, return in the backcourt and forward Andre Patterson returns up front.

Center Major Wingate and guard Dane Bradshaw also had eight starts apiece in 2005, but things begin to thin out quickly after that.

Maybe not but with Lofton shooting lights out, they may make it tougher on some teams this year than some would like. OTOH, I couldn't figure out why they didn't have a better season last year. Could it have been a Buzz problem? We shall see if Pearl lives up to his name.

I have never for the life of me been able to figure out why with the facilities and resources that Tennessee has that it cant be a consitant winner in mens basketball. I know everyone hands you the fact that it will always be third behind womens basketball and football, but why does have to be such a bad third?

To me part of the reason is they are too concerned with being us! What I mean by that is they arent ever going to reach our status year in year out, but could be a decent consistant winning NCAA tourney team. But you simply cant change coaches every other year and ever build a program. I mean sure you may have a good year here and there. But at some point you have got to be able to choose a guy and say hes my man for the long haul!

At this point this year they are paying 3 coaches I believe; Jerry Green, Buzz Peterson and Bruce Pearl. If you wear orange kind of makes you yearn for the days of Ray Mears or Don Devoe! Maybe even Wade Houston? OK maybe it makes UK fans yearn for Wade Houston to be there!

I thought UT had some decent players and gave us fits in Lex only to stink it up down the road. I think Pearl might juice em up a bit though.
