I wasn't familiar with Mike Leach but did take a look at him. From what I read, what you say about him is very accurate. According to an article I read, besides being a character he usually gets his teams to a bowl game. I would imagine the Mississippi State fans would like that very much regardless of his antics. Coach Leach is a very good coach, in my opinion. I wanted him to get the UK job when they gave it to Joker and again when they hired coach Stoops (although the Stoops hire seems to have worked out quite well). He's an authority on pirates, loves the subject. He was an asst. at UK when Hal Mumme coached at UK. Like coach Mumme, he runs a pass heavy off. and calls his own plays. Given the personnel to run his off., and a decent def., I believe he'll do ok at State. I doubt they'll ever challenge Bama, Auburn and LSU for the SEC West title, but I don't know that they would no matter who was their coach. It'll be entertaining to say the least. I look forward to his post game interviews.
