Iowa athletic director Bob Bowlsby announced that Alford was given a one-year extension that keeps him under contract until June 30, 2010. The deal includes a bump in Alford's annual base salary to $500,000, an increase of 16.7 percent from the previous year. More..click hereI had heard from some of the IU diehards, that a lot of Iowa fans or the administration were not as happy with Alford as some would think. I dismissed that as being IU bs but now after only being given a year's extension, it seems it may be true.

Iowa had a fairly decent team last year. I guess all fans are getting more demanding these days. I imagine that Indiana wouldn't mind having him for a coach if Sampson doesn't work out. Afterall, he is their golden boy.

In answer to your post, there isn't a lot of hoopla for Alford to be IU's coach. I'm not sure which is wagging the tail here, whether it be they're not interested or whether Alford isn't interested. Who knows?

Do you think that Alford thinks that he might be under too much scrutiny if he coached Indiana?

From what I got, he was miffed that he wasn't even approached by IU. Whether he's happy enough at Iowa to not consider the IU job is a bit cloudy. Alford may have said he was happy at Iowa just to give the impression he didn't want the IU job. There may be some that know the real reason/reasons besides Alford but I'm not on that list for sure.
