LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State's basketball program has granted guard Shon Caston a release from the team and decided not to renew the scholarships of three other players, head coach Reggie Theus announced Friday. The Aggies did not renew the scholarships of guards Shaun Davis of San Diego and Ted Knauber of Albuquerque's Sandia High and forward Supo Jegede of Aurora, Colo. Davis played in all 30 games and made 14 starts, averaging 7.2 points a game. He was second on the team with 72 assists. More..click hereA bit of old news (3 days old) but while reading it, noticed the statement about Davis averaging 7.2 points. Why would a coach not renew a player's scholarship that's averaging that much?

That does seem odd. Maybe there are things that aren't mentioned here that they don't want made public. Reggie Theus knows that breaking NCAA rules are a bad thing.

What I mean by that question is, most teams renew scholarships to players that don't even start, let alone average 7.2 a game. Seems kind of funny.

Every scholarship is a year to year thing, but this is really weird. There must be something here we dont know about.
