In the realm of mid-major college basketball, coaches need to rely on their star players. A coach's chances of victory — and sometimes his continued employment — depend on them. So what happens when the coach and his star develop a rift? What do you do when they won't adhere to the game plan or continue to challenge authority? "Some players don't know when to stop," said Lancaster Gordon, who starred for the University of Louisville in the 1980s. "They're like children. They always push the envelope. Some times they push it too far. It's the coach's responsibility to maintain a balance between giving that player (freedom) and having that player conform to what you're trying to do."
