Just interested in knowing who everyones all time favorite non UK college basketball coach of all time is. I have to say mine is none other then Jim Valvano. I always loved his enthusiasm and the style his teams played. He really seemed to be a good guy also! His coaching job throughout the 1984 tournament , may be the best coaching job ever in basketball. What a lot of people forget is, NC State had to win the ACC tourney just to make the NCAA tourney, what a streak they put together!

Valvano is a classic and hard not to like but believe it or not, I always had a soft spot for LSU's Dale Brown. Say what you may about him, he always exuded a deep father figure and as far as his coaching goes (except for the biggest comeback ever game) I've seen him keep his teams calm and trod through situations because he was calm, cool and collected (well maybe collected is a bit strong). I liked him though and was sad to see him leave LSU.

Good choice Bubba and I really do think he loved his players and is a good person. It would have been great to have played for him! He seemed like a real players coach!

My all-time favorite was Al McGuire. He had such enthusiasm and passion for the game. Plus, he respected our program and he let it be known.

When Al became an announcer back in 1978 I was first learning to play the game of basketball and I took everything he said to heart as being the gospel. I felt this guy just won the championship the year before he must know everything now that he is an announcer! There was one thing I can remember like it was yesterday that I always did all the way through college. I backed off the free throw line when I was shooting before the first shot and in between free throws. I really cant remember why he said to do that, but it always worked pretty well for me. It loosened me up and I didnt feel tight at the free throw line regardless of how important the free throws were.
