In three seasons at Kentucky, Rich Brooks has gone 6-17, tussled with Bobby Johnson and Vanderbilt in the SEC East cellar, and has lacked competitiveness in the most of his major conference games. Through five games in 2005, the Wildcats are 1-4 with their lone win coming over Idaho State, and their last three losses coming by 21 points or more. Though Brooks has gotten a recent vote of approval from UK brass, our sources have told us that the search for his successor is underway - and may have already been found. More..click hereNot too sure about the possible new choice, doesn't he have a few years on him too?

I have heard his name mentioned before and it was actually thrown around back when Brooks was hired. I dont think it will be him but you never know!

He's got a bit of age on him doesn't he? No more than Spurrier probably.

Yea i dont think he quite as old as Brooks and Spurrier but he isnt the youngest candidate we will see. It seems like I also remember him having some health problems as part of the reason he didnt become a candiate for some job opening this past year! But I may be wrong on that one.

I've been saying for a long time that David Cutcliffe will be the next coach at UK.
Cutcliffe had to step down at Notre Dame because he wasn't recovering as fast as expected following heart surgery. However, Charlie Weis almost died three years ago following gastric bypass surgery -- and he's doing okay physically and professionally now.
As far as age goes, Cutcliffe turned 51 on September 16. That's thirteen years younger than Rich Brooks. He would be the fifth oldest head coach in the SEC, and only a few days older than Tommy Tuberville and a few weeks older than Sylvester Croom.
I looked into the ages of current SEC head coaches and the average age of this season's coaches is 50.4; that would put Cutcliffe almost right at the average. Here's a breakdown of this season's coaches -- with birthdate and age at the end of 2005:
Rich Brooks -- 8/20/41 (64) Steve Spurrier -- 4/20/45 (60) Phil Fulmer -- 9/1/50 (55) Bobby Johnson -- 2/8/51 (54) Les Miles -- 11/10/53 (52) David Cutcliffe -- 9/16/54 (51) Tommy Tuberville -- 9/18/54 (51) Sylvester Croom -- 9/25/54 (51) Houston Nutt -- 10/14/57 (48) Mark Richt -- 2/18/60 (45) Ed Orgeron -- 7/27/61 (44) Urban Meyer -- 7/10/64 (41) Mike Shula -- 6/3/65 (40)
Mike Leach would be my #1 choice but if I was him I wouldn't think about leaving Texas Tech for UK. If not Leach, I say bring in Cutcliffe because of his coaching/recruiting experience in the SEC.
GO IRISH!!!

Great research fce! It was very interesting. I also think that Cutcliffe would be an ok choice, but think maybe because of all he knows about the SEC he might think twice about taking the UK job!
When I say ok, I suppose maybe I am hoping for someone with a little more exciting of a name and style to come here, but maybe that isnt the right route at this point either. At this point ALMOST any choice is better then what we have though, dont you agree?

Very good post fce, 51 is still a pup.and with his experience would be a fine candidate. I know this doesn't have anything to do with the topic but everytime I see fce's name I want to say face. Do you get that from anyone?
