I am going to make this short and sweet and tell everyone the consensus of the people I have talked to in Lexington the last day and a half. Now granted this isnt a scentific poll at all, so it is of course subject to criticism.
I was a little surprised as I spoke with probably around 15 separate people who i knew of as UK football fans in the last few days.
More then the general consensus is that Brooks has to go, BUT no one expects him to be gone not only during the season but even after! There are two main reasons they expect Brooks to remain our coach.
1) No one expects his boss, Mitch Barnhart to pull the trigger to get rid of him, just because he would then have to admit his choice was the wrong choice! My thought on that is, does anyone other then Barnhart himself think he made a good hire now?
2) Brooks still has 3 years left on his contract that will pay him a hard earned 2.1 million! No one that I talked to expects UK to pay another coach who isnt coaching our school!
My take on it is this. People will always say that we cant afford to start all over with a new coach again, that we are too far into the rebuilding process now. If I had any doubts that we need to go this route they were all changed on Sat night! In my mind we have no choice but to change. If we dont change soon, there will be nothing left to rebuild! I really dont see that changing coaches can make things any worse then it is right now!
In closing, this to me tells the story more then anything else. I read a quote on here or somewhere the last couple of days that stated, "it takes a lot to run off UK football fans, but Rich Brooks has managed to do it"! Of the around 15 people that I have spoke with the last few days over half of them at the end, said they really "dont care anymore". Can anyone honestly say it isnt time for a change when people simply quit caring? That to me is much worse then being loud and demanding a change!
