LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Rich Brooks normally keeps a tight rein on his compliments, but when preseason conversations turned to tight end Jacob Tamme, the University of Kentucky's reserved football coach couldn't hide his optimism. Tamme, a sophomore who moved seamlessly from wide receiver to tight end in the final week of the 2004 season, became a primary source for confidence in the Wildcats' new offense. Comparisons to former UK tight end James Whalen flowed through Big Blue Nation like water. But three games into the season, with No. 5-ranked Florida awaiting tomorrow, Tamme has been a relatively small factor instead of the offense's X factor.
