By LARRY VAUGHT Sports Editor Kentucky athletics director Mitch Barnhart insists he's pleased with the "foundational pieces" that coach Rich Brooks and his staff have put in place for the UK football program. It's just that Barnhart apparently is not convinced yet that the progress he wants is there because he refused Monday to give Brooks the vote of confidence the coach wanted. Not exactly a vote of confidence but perhaps more of one then he deserves! Where else in the country could a coach get that much of a positive response with a 7-21 record?

The sad thing is, Brooks came out of retirement to help a friend. That same friend is now buckling to fan pressure and is now sticking it to (or getting ready to that is) his dear friend. Sad indeed.

I do feel sorry for him to a certain degree when you put it like that. But he has been compensated mightily well!!

Brooks wasn't looking for a job when his bud Barnhart came calling mind you. It would have taken big bucks for me to have taken a team that was on probation too!

Dont get me wrong I place a lot of blame for this "mess" we have on Barnhart's shoulders also! You know the old saying about dont ever go to work for a friend or hire a friend to work for you!
I will say this, it wont be a popular decision and I for one will not agree with it. But, if Barnhart believes Brooks is the right man in the right place he should stand by his man and bring him back for another year! One has to wonder if perhaps it might start to get a little hot under Barnharts seat if he does so?
If Brooks is given another year, I hope when it ends up as bad or worse as this one that it will convince everyone that while he might be a nice guy and he does know a lot of football he simply isnt the right choice to turn this program around!
