I have been watching all weekend on CNN that the Hurricane Katrina that is about to hit New Orleans could be a catastrophe unlike any that the U.S. has ever seen from a hurricane. New Orleans lies below sea level and is basically surrounded on 3 sides by water. They rely a lot already on pumps and electircal power to pump a lot of water out of the city under normal circumstances. It is possible that the majority of the city could be under water for several days if it takes a direct hit from a category 5 storm! Lets keep this city and its people in our thoughts and prayers in the next couple of days!

I just got caught up on the hurricane just now and had noticed that they told the people of New Orleans to flee. It must be going to be very bad to tell folks that.

I'm sure a lot of us are hoping this storm doesn't take too many loved ones away from their families and friends.

I saw on the news last night that they had declared martial law in Louisiana. I think it also said that martial law hadnt been declared anywhere since Peral Harbor. Bubba, could that be right? Also forgive my stupidity here I know it isnt good, but what exactly does martial law mean?

Thoughts and prayers go out to the folks that have been affected by this storm. I don't know exactly what marshal law entails. I do know that businesses are being stripped of goods everywhere. There has been footage of looters taking all kinds of things-not survival items-like TVs and stereos. I think it's awful that there are people risking life and limb to help and then we have this faction of lowlife scum.

I agree 100 percent the looting of non survival items should not be tolerated. However for those taking foods or items for babies, kids or the elderly at the point they are at, you have to do what you have to do!

I'm not totally sure about the Martial law thing but it probably has something to do with curfew and enforcing the law. I'll find out about it. I heard from my doctor today that it's going to be 100 degrees there today and I already had heard that it was going to be 3 days before power is restored.
