Jerry Tipton HERALD-LEADER Kentucky opens the season in the Guardians Classic tonight, which marks the second-earliest date to start a season in UK basketball history. Then again, is it ever too early to develop good habits? UK Coach Tubby Smith all but asked that question after his team's final pre-season exhibition game last week. Though the Cats beat Georgetown College 85-63, Smith lamented the 24 turnovers and, in more candid language, the ill-fated gambles for steals that created open shots for the opposition. "We're taking too many chances (and) getting out of position," he said in his post-game news conference. "I don't know how many shots -- point blank -- they had. We were just poor defensively." Early in the season, plenty of time for Tubby to get the problems worked out! We all want to storm through the first part of the season and through all the rivals and not lose! But, lets keep our eye on the prize here, its about getting better as the season goes alone and hopefully reaching that Final four!!!
