I was thinking last night about how lucky I am with everything going on in the world; the war, earthquakes, hurricanes, poverty, disease, to be able to walk into Rupp Arena on Friday night and have the fun that I will have!!
I am sure sometimes that we all take for granted just how special it is to be born, live, raised a UK basketball fan! Passed down from generation to generation it is something truly unique and special and unlike anything else in the world! Growing up I can still remember my dad's stories of listening on the radio to his boyhood hero Cotton Nash. Then going back even farther my grandfather telling me of his hero Harlan, Kentucky's claim to fame Wah Wah Jones. Then to think back of all the great memories I have had from being in elementary school and imitating Kyle Macy shooting free throws, to my hero when I was in high school Kenny Walker, to the great resergence of the 90s led by Jamal Mashburn and then thinking Rick Pitino walked on water when I first moved to Lexington! Then to watch my 6 year old shoot on his goal and say "hey dad Im Rondo." It goes to show you as you get older very few things have been with you all your life and Kentucky basketball is one of those things. What we have is a bond with every Cat fan that is unique a lifetime of memories that nothing can EVER take away!
Bubba, I for one when I look up at the banners on Friday night instead of looking down at them like normal, hahaha. I will think to myself how VERY, VERY lucky I am to have the oppurtunity to share with family and friends this one of kind experience we have here in UK basketball. Other then family, friends and everyone's health I wouldnt trade moments like Friday night for anything in the world!! GO CATS!!
