Cats watching Patterson, who watches interest grow INDIANAPOLIS - One day this spring, Patrick Patterson was told to report to the principal's office. "I was pretty nervous," he recalled. "It was like I'd been suspended or something like that. Normally, I don't get called to the principal's office that much." With a 3.5 grade-point average and the status that goes with leading your high school to two straight state championships, it would be more likely if the principal were called to Patterson's office. Yet, it was true. Patterson was told to report to the office of the Huntington (W.Va.) High School principal. "So I walk in there and look at the principal and he laughs," Patterson said. "Then he points behind me." There stood Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith. More..click hereAnother Patterson article..click herePatterson would be a big get and Tubby seems to be pulling out all the stops.

Rumor has it we are the favorite. I for one, would be stunned if he and Jai didnt come here. Regardless how we have faired in the past on other recruits. Barring a stunning early commitment of Hickson and some other stud forward, hes ours to lose it seems.

Rumor has it that Lucas has talked to and about several going to the same school and not just him and Patterson. It would be nice to get both of them though. Hickson is another that Tubby is hot after.

That sounds nice! 6'8" and a chiseled 228 pounds already. So, is Jai Lucas supposed to be really fast? I think I read that he is rather short, around 5'10" or so.

Heck, I'll just try to think of him as Mugsy Bogues. For the life of me, I can't think of the name of the other little guy that played in the NBA. Can anybody help me out here, or is your mind about as feeble as mine?

Jai is listed at 5'10 but I read he is closer to 5'8. And yes he does have good open floor speed. Thats pretty much his game since he cant muscle up against bigger and stronger guards.
Patterson in the past day has said that his 2 favorites are UK and Wake, but that anything could change and hes still wide open or whatever.

It would be sweet to get a package-deal like this. But, I'm going to stop getting my hopes up until it is a done deal. I hate to be on that emotional rollercoaster. It kills me.

I have always had a belief that being short can be an advantage in certain roles – if you are really short. A player that is very short keeps the ball close to the floor and makes it difficult for his defender. Against teams that play a smothering full court pressing defense, a player like that can be valuable.
