I pilferred this from The Cats Pause site and am mentioning it to give them props. Below is a list of several bball recruits that UK is after.
Brandan Wright. 6’9” 210 PF from Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, TN. Another agile PF with a deft shooting touch. CONSUMMATE team player. Sometimes OVER passes when he could have scored just to get his teammates involved. GREAT rebounder. Great defensive player. Can do just about anything on the floor. HAS NO ATTITUDE. He also knows that he can take anyone one on one, but his demeanor will never show it.
Thaddeus Young. 6’8” 205 SF from Memphis, TN Mitchell Road HS. BIG TIME scorer. Explosive in the open court, can beat people off the dribble and DYNAMITE going to the hole. 3-pt shot is WAY above average for a guy his size. Has no fear on the offensive end and has the attitude to take it in your face. BUT he is a team player also. Had 2 9 assist games that I saw. Defense is a little weak, but teachable. Sometimes gets ahead in his mind what he wants to do and turns the ball over but he is a BIG TIME TALENT.
Perry Stevenson. 6’9” 195 C/PF from Lafayette, LA Northside HS. Very agile very talented player. Plays center for his HS but will move easily to the PF slot in college. VERY VERY strong in the paint and nice jumper to 14 ft. STRONG rebounder. Excellent defender.
Stanley Robinson. 6’9” 215 PF from Birmingham AL Woodlawn HS. Another agile PF in this loaded class. Strong rebounder and excellent defender. Not as gifted offensively as some of the others. Gets his points in the paint and the offensive glass. Plays defense maybe as good as anyone in this class.
Earl Clark. 6’7” 200 PG Agile and gifted as a PG. Not a great scorer yet but it is being honed. The shoe camps will help. Also the AAU circuit. Loves to play the point and will get the chance at the right school. Great handle with the ball and an excellent vision for the game.
Jawan Carter. 5’11” 165 PG from Wilmington, DE Tatnall HS. Very gifted PG, but size will limit him as his jumper is only good to 16 ft. Great passer and team player. Will make the right team better.
Willie Kemp. 6’2” 170 PF from Bolivar, TN. Great scorer, great leader, great competitor. Loves to take over the game… by LEADING. And has the tools to do it. Working on perimeter game and if it rounds it, could be top 30 material. Quick and agile and loves to play defense also.
Jonathon Mitchell. 6’6 ½” 235 PF from Mount Vernon NY. Very powerful inside player, but maybe undersize for the PF. Has the agility to play the 3 but needs to hone the jumper on the perimeter to round out his game. LOVES to mix it up and rebounds very well. Plays excellent defense also.
AnJuan Wilderness. 6’6” 210 SF from Dunwoody, GA. Slasher. Maybe the epitome of a slasher. Prefers driving to the jumper but is honing the jumper. Needs work on defense but is teachable. His body is ready for the 2 or the 3 in college.
Johnnie Lett, 6’9” 220 C/PF from Mobile, AL Rain HS. Up and coming recruit. Very athletic and has a GREAT deal of upside. Came from nowhere to be one of the finalists for Alabama HS player of the year. Rangy and lanky. But also strong and core athletic. Offense is improving daily. Defense was already there. One to watch out for.
James Dews. 6’3” 185 SG from Middletown, OH Lakota East HS> Big Time shooter. Can knock it down from just about anywhere. Very nice leaping ability also. Ball handling is suspect and passing is just average. But the scoring makes up for the “inadequacies”. Defense needs work.
Javaris Crittenton 6’5” 185 PG from Atlanta, GA Southwest Christian HS. Tall rangy, very heady PG. Played with Dwight Howard. Very savvy and very heady on the court. Knows how to make teammates better. Jump shot needs some work, but is a very good finisher in the lane. Defense is average.
Byron Faison 6’1” 175 SG from Sumter, SC Crestwood HS. Explosive shooting guard. Size will be the only factor hindering Byron. The shooting and scoring skills are there. Also the ball handling is suspect also. Very good defensively and is a very Very good team player.
Alex Stepheson 6’9” 215 PF from North Hollywood, CA Harvard-Westlake HS. One of the beasts in this class. Very strong and very athletic. Offense is a little weak, but rebounding and defense more than make up for his lack of a jumper. Jump shot is OK out to 10-12 feet. Very strong around the rim. Methodical but very manipulative rebounder. Very conscientious defender. Knows passing lanes and double downs.
Andre Stephens 6’8” 230 C from Heidelburg MS HS> Yet ANOTHER very strong and very athletic PF/C in this class. From a small HS in Mississippi so the jury is still out to see if Andre can really play with the same talent. The shoe camps and AAU this year will tell. VERY strong offensively and defensively in the paint.
David Kool 6’2” 175 SG from Grand Rapids, MI South Christian HS. Very solid jump shot and 3-pt shooter. Needs work defensively and ball handling.
Larry Wright, 6'2" 175 SG. Saginaw, MI. Nice handle and excellent scorer. Height at the 2G may hinder some big schools recruiting. but has the talent to score on just about anyone.
Not mentioned was Dion Thompson (click here)
and Derrick Jasper (click here)
These are the ones we are the tightest with:
Young
Kemp
Wright
Jasper
Thompson
I feel like Young and Wright will be the hardest to land.
