By JIM MASILAK, The Commercial Appeal October 24, 2005 Mitchell High basketball star Thaddeus Young told The Commercial Appeal on Sunday night that he has made his much-anticipated college decision. But when Young makes his pick among Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Kentucky public today at a 10 a.m. press conference, he will effectively be revealing his No. 2 choice. Mitchell coach Jerry Johnson revealed Sunday that Young committed about two weeks ago to North Carolina, following an earlier visit to the Chapel Hill campus. But when asked by the Tar Heels coaching staff to go public with his pledge before a planned visit to Kentucky, Young and his father, Felton Young, declined. Soon thereafter, Brentwood Academy star Brandan Wright offered to commit to North Carolina and the Tar Heels ended their recruitment of Young. Wright (6-9, 201 pounds) and Young (6-8, 205) are consensus top-five prospects nationally in the class of 2006. "That's what Felton told me. There's a lot more drama to this than people realize," said Johnson, adding that he was unaware which school Young would be committing to today. "They were bringing Brandan Wright in and Thaddeus and his family knew that. But I'm amazed (North Carolina accepted Wright's commitment) because they told us Thaddeus was their No. 1 recruit." --->Link
