I saw this on ESPN ticker today. What's everybody's thoughts on this? I, also, saw that Clemson and Florida State were considering joining the SEC too. I kinda have mixed feelinga about conference changing, but I guess it is inevitable at some point. It seems to me that football could get tougher, doesn't it?

Just A&M joining the SEC would make the SEC tougher, with Clemson and Florida State joining, it would get really tough. I would think Kentucky might head for the ACC if that happened.

As Bubba said, just adding A & M would be bad enough, but I'm hearing that Missouri is interested in coming on board also. If that were to happen, the conference would jump from 12 to 16 teams. Unless the SEC went to 4 four team divisions, we would have two eight team divisions with A & M and Missouri probably joining the SEC West and Clemson and Fl. State joining the SEC East. If that were to happen, we would probably pick up three additional SEC games (two from the East and another one from the West). Unless the SEC added some games to the schedule, we would have to drop three of our cupcakes. Yes, life would definately get a lot harder for UK (as if it isn't hard enough already). As for UK leaving the SEC, I would like to see it happen, but I don't think it ever will. For one thing, we're a charter member and, perhaps more importantly, UK would lose a lot of revenue by leaving.

We definitely need the revenue and playing some of the big named SEC school definitely brings that in. OTOH, going to a bowl would become much much tougher.

Most of the major media outlets such as ESPN and FOX Sports are saying it's off, at least for now. I'm not so sure that's the case.

It is off for the time being. Expansion is inevidible though. It driven by two things big time college football and the money it creates! In my opinion eventually there will onlly be the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Pac 10 in football, as the super conferences have already started taking shape. So the SEC shouldnt wait too long to make its move.
I just dont ever see Kentucky leaving the SEC. Its too lucrative and we are too successful in everything but football and no matter who came in basketball it doesnt matter. In all reality football wise, almost everyone would like to be in the SEC. As the SEC champion always has a great chance at a national title. 5 in a row is pretty good odds!

I agree about A&M. I also think just as adding two teams is necessary for balance. I think the eventual plan is to end up at 16 teams. I think its just a matter of time that Florida State comes into the sec east, Florida may balk to start with, but in the end its a natural fit.
