RICHMOND, Ky. – Madison Central point guard Dominique Hawkins – Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball winner – announced Wednesday morning that he has committed to play for the University of Kentucky, providing depth and home-state flavor to a recruiting class that’s already ranked far and away as the nation’s best. Hawkins, a 6-foot-1 player, is a lifelong UK fan who has said multiple times that it was his dream to play for the Wildcats, but it was only during Wednesday’s assembly in the MCHS gym that he revealed he had a definitive scholarship offer from coach John Calipari. bleacherreport.com/tb/da8wv?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=sec-basketballGlad to have a home grown Mr Basketball, hope he gets some minutes.

I hope young Mr. Hawkins isn't making a mistake. I'd say, by the time he's a Soph., he would be starting for most teams, in the SEC. The problem is UK isn't most teams. Given the level of talent Cal brings in, being good isn't good enough, you have to be uber good to start and/or log a lot of minutes.

I hope he gets playing time as well. Some of our Mr. Basketball from our state just haven't lived up to expectations. Let's hope that Hawkins has that desire and abilitiy that makes him compete for that time. I would love to see some players from our state do well. Glad to have him. Go Cats!
