I don't remember his playing days at UK. That was just before I became interested in sports. I did know Jerry very well though. Although all four of the Bird boys (Jerry, Calvin, Billy and Rodger) were good bb players, Jerry was the only one that played in college and the NBA. The other boys were much more interested in fb. Jerry and Calvin were quite a bit older than me. Billy was a Jr. and Rodger was a Soph. at Corbin High School when I was a Fr. They are/were all very humble and down to earth, not like a lot of star athletes. I never participated in sports in h.s., but the way Billy and Rodger treated me you would have thought I was a teammate of theirs. This speaks volumes about the way Reuben and Bonnie raised them.
